September 20, 2002 - I guess this weekend's all shot to hell...
From NOAA, Hurricane Isidore Pounding Cuba: Maximum sustained winds are near 105 mph with higher gusts, making Isidore a Category 2 hurricane on the Saffir-Simpson Hurricane Scale. Better batten down Matanzas. September 19, 2002 - I suspect many more had feathers...
It's a Rabbit-osaur! September 18, 2002 - Background
While doing research on Mitchell BC-splines for image processing, I came across Erik Meijering's Chronology of Interpolation. The paper is here as a PDF document. Exotic stuff! September 17, 2002 - Sell The Rights
This morning Tom was reading good old c4k, and he came across this article about robotic archaeology. Now this little mechanical mouse is cool and all, but the "Pyramid Rover" costs a quarter million dollars... Compare that to the absurd profits gleaned from the Lara Croft franchise, and you'll see how they got their economics all wrong when they decided how these tombs should be raided. Then again, Lara isn't your typical archaeologist anymore than Renée O'Connor. September 16, 2002 - We Want The Whale Back After All
According to Daily News from Iceland, it turns out that the Oregon Coast Aquarium wants Keiko back. I recently visited the aquarium in Newport, Oregon, and it's clear that attendance is down without the international cetacean star to draw the crowds. Whatever your opinions about Keiko's future, it's hard not to view this as a retrograde move for the animal. September 13, 2002 - Lunacy

The correct pronunciation for 'Cruithne' is 'croo-een-ya' with emphasis on the middle syllable, and it refers to Celtic or Pictish peoples. September 12, 2002 - Wonderland
Thanks to a hard-working angel, vacation photos are surfacing. This awesome bridge is on the Wonderland Trail, which circles Mount Rainier in Washington. While we only hiked a short part of the the trail, I'd love to take the time to do the whole route. Someday... Be sure to check out other people's logs of their hikes, like Doug Edmundson and Aaron Fuegi or Aaron and Jason Doss or Judy Runge. Great sites! September 9, 2002 - It Could be Torturous!
Is there nothing that Bruce Dickenson can't do? September 6, 2002 - Get Out There
Since returning to the internet world after spending a couple weeks at national parks, I still feel the need to keep up to date with park happenings, and I can with Morning Report. This is your best source for news concerning animal attacks, wilderness rescue, and wild fires.
In weather news, Tropical Storm Fay is churning in Gulf, 100 miles from Galveston. September 4, 2002 - Revenue
I'm back from a wonderful vacation in Washington and Wyoming.
From our Madison, Wisconsin affiliate, Show Your Packer Pride In Your Eyeballs. This totally reminds me of the designer Zeiss eyeballs that were such a fixture in that William Gibson story, The Winter Market, from the Burning Chrome anthology. |
