This is morman.com. Multilingual.

So today I received an unsolicited e-mail message which is in a language and character set I don't understand.
However, thanks to the miracle of machine translation, I was able to understand it perfectly.
Thanks, Internet, what would I do without you?

A dozen days on the lam, the renegade cow lands in the hoosegow.

The history of news wire services is an interesting one.
As we try to integrate various feeds, we're fighting with generations of standards: ANPA, MOS, NITF, and NewsML, just to name a few. Ick.

Fully mentholated.

Unhappy with the disqualification of Kim Dong-Sung in 1500 meter short track, over a hundred thousand votes have been cast by South Koreans on our DC affiliate's survey.

Do you agree with the judge's decision to disqualify a Korean skater and award Apolo Ohno the gold medal Wednesday night?
Choice Votes Percent of 108386 votes
Yes 3019 3%
No 105367 97%

That's as of 21:00 CST this evening, still receiving several votes a second. Who knows what the total will be when I look at it next?

The MN DOT reader board knows the truth.
I found this one in the mn.general USENET group.

From b-may who is working Mag' & Bag [magnetometer (metal detector) and bag search] security live from the 2002 Winter Olympics:

A Canadian skater kept approaching the stairs up to the ice, only to be told that, for security purposes, we had to stop everyone, even if we knew them: "I'm not a security threat: I'm Canadian!"

Thanks to Cursor for pointing this out.

You dogs would never do this:

"Between the water and sewer bills and cost for toilet paper, the cats are going to have to get a job," Russ Asbury said.

My most-excellent co-worker Tom sent me this Olympic Zoom Movie which is just too cool.

AEB and I had a wonderful Valentine's Day Dinner at Zinc.
Yum.

Ah, the Internet determines everything these days.

Unlike other beauty contests, Miss Iceland.is is not chosen by a panel of judges. The Icelandic public chooses the winner by telephone and Internet votes.
Technology is wonderous!

In other island news, from TheHawaiiChannel I learned that if you're going to dye yourself black, don't use lead-based body paint...

Like so many other geeks who attepted to order a 400 dollar board for 120 bucks, I received this note from BestBuy today:

We sincerely apologize for the error in your recent pre-order of the VisionTek Xtasy GeForce4 Graphics Accelerator. Because we value you as a BestBuy.com customer, we would like to offer you a $30 digital coupon to use on your next online purchase.
Now what should I do with $30?

Okay, so the blog took a sabbatical for two months.
Oddly, I'm back.

Sadly, my site has fallen to second place on Google.
That'll teach me what happens when I take time off.

Because I'm out of practice, let's start with something fun.
I was going to show the clever European Levi's ad Odyssey from the "Mouvement sans contrainte" campaign.
We watch a young couple running through walls, and eventually flying off into space...

But the server that houses an MPEG version of the movie seems to be overloaded. Bof!
Perhaps I'll put the low-fi version in the "Stuff on the Right" section instead.

Back at work, I've been completely over-loaded launching sites for NBC owned and operated stations:

In geek news, a copy of Borland's JBuilder 6 just landed on my desk.
I'm looking forward to tearing into that and cranking out some new wx classes.

Finally, the folks over at O'Reilly have developed a new brand to capitalize on the promise of peer to peer technology.
I really enjoyed the Andy Oram book, but in a post-Napster world, the business case is still blurry.
